Time to Update

Image
We were called to tear out the carpet upstairs, and install pre-finished hardwood flooring. After we did that we tore out the carpet off the steps and stained stair treads to match the pre-finished flooring. We decided to tackle the balustrade before installing the stair treads and risers.   For the balustrade, the handrails and boxed newel posts were painted white. The wooden balusters were replaced with black metal balusters.   Here are a few photos of the before and after.  We also replaced the rosette on the upstairs handrail.     "I've been replaced!"  - Silly Goose 😅

Restoring Old Floors

There was an old house in a nearby town that has become a landmark.  The house was built in 1907 and remodeled in the 1920's. When we first saw the floors they were quite neglected, blackened by years of adhesives from carpets and dirt.   We started on the second floor sanding away the gunk and dirt.  The more we sanded the more the floors came to life, showing the beautiful, ornate inlays around the rooms. Here are a few photos of the work done.              Hall entrance upstairs (before)  .      (after) Upstairs bedroom floor .......After sanding and finishing Dining room (Before) Started sanding main floor Ornate inlay around the dining room.  Dining room finished Living room (before) Ornate inlay around living room.  Living room finished. The more we worked on the floors, the more we were in awe of the workmanship done by past crafts
